My first impression when we got off the train in Denali National Park was....the amazing vegetation of the tundra. Tundra is a biome where the tree growth is hindered by low temperatures and short growing seasons. The term tundra comes from Russian and means treeless mountain tract. Tundra vegetation is composed of dwarf shrubs, sedges and grasses, mosses, and lichens. This photo looks like a forest, but shows vegetation only a few inches tall. According to the US National Park Service, Denali is six million acres of wild land, bisected by one ribbon of road. Travelers along the road see the relatively low-elevation Taiga forest give way to high alpine tundra and snowy mountains, culminating in North America's tallest peak, 20,310' Denali. Wild animals large and small roam un-fenced lands, living as they have for ages. Denali is a UNESCO Biosphere Region Solitude, tranquility and wilderness await. This photo was taken in 2017.

The last twenty year have been an incredibly exciting time as resources for photographers have exploded. I have been lucky enough to have some great teachers along the way...
